Barcode Sticker Printing add codes to packaging you already have
A stockist says yes, then asks for barcodes. For many small producers that is the moment packaging needs a rethink – except it does not have to. Barcode sticker printing lets you add a scannable code to boxes, bags, cards and jars you already own, one sticker per variant, without reprinting the packaging itself.

A barcode sticker bridges the gap between packaging made for markets and packaging ready for a shop till. Here is how to plan it.
Why choose barcode sticker printing?
Printed boxes and bags are often ordered in large quantities, long before a retailer asks for barcodes. Reprinting all of that stock would be wasteful. A small sticker carrying the code turns the packaging you already have into retail-ready packaging.
Stickers are also flexible. The same plain box can hold several variants, each identified by its own barcode sticker, so you do not need separate packaging for every flavour or colour.
And if a stockist later asks for codes in a different position, a sticker is simple to move on the next batch.
Who uses barcode stickers
Barcode sticker printing is often ordered by:
- Makers entering retail – candle, soap and craft brands moving into shops.
- Food and drink producers – adding codes to boxes, pouches and gift packs.
- Publishers and card designers – barcodes on cello bags and backing cards.
- Importers and wholesalers – coding goods that arrive without them.
- Gift and hamper businesses – codes for assembled sets and bundles.
Materials, shapes and sizes
White paper or white vinyl with a matte surface gives scanners the clean, low-glare background they prefer. Choose vinyl for packs that are chilled, handled a lot or sold in damp environments.
Rectangles are the usual shape, leaving room for the bars, the human-readable numbers underneath and clear space either side. A small product name or variant line above the code helps shop staff too.
Size the sticker for the barcode rather than the other way round. Shrinking a retail code to fit a tiny sticker is a common cause of scanning problems.
Planning a barcode sticker order
Make a simple list pairing every product variant with its barcode number and quantity. Export each code as a vector file from your barcode software and name the file after the variant, so nothing gets mixed up at proof stage.
Decide where the sticker will sit on each pack. A flat panel away from folds, seams and heat seals is ideal, and using the same position on every product makes life easier at the till.
When your proofs arrive, compare each number against your list. Once stickers are delivered, scan a few before applying them to the full batch.
How barcode stickers help your brand
Being barcode-ready opens doors to farm shops, delis, gift shops and larger stockists that rely on till systems. A neat, well-placed sticker shows buyers that your business is organised.
Adding your logo or colours to the sticker edge keeps even a functional code feeling on-brand.
Why makers choose AStickerPrinting for barcode sticker printing
We print your barcode stickers from the files you supply, highlight anything likely to affect scanning, such as a code squeezed too small, and send a PDF proof for every variant. Please note that we print the codes you provide rather than issuing barcode numbers.

Balance a clean code with a touch of branding.

Barcode Sticker Printing questions, answered
Can a barcode sticker go on packaging that is already printed?
Yes. That is one of the most common reasons to order them. Choose a flat, light-coloured area of the pack or rely on the sticker’s own white background for contrast.
Do you supply barcode numbers?
No. We print the barcode artwork you send. Retailers usually expect numbers obtained through GS1 UK, so check your stockist’s requirements.
How should I send barcodes for several variants?
Export each barcode as a separate vector file named after its variant, and include a list of variants, numbers and quantities.
Can my logo go on the barcode sticker?
Yes, as long as it sits clear of the bars and the space either side. Keep the area immediately behind the code plain and light.
Why is a small barcode harder to scan?
Retail barcodes are designed to be read at particular sizes. Reducing them too far makes the bars very thin, which some scanners struggle to read.
Should I choose paper or vinyl barcode stickers?
Paper is fine for dry, ambient packaging. Vinyl is safer for chilled products or packs that are handled often, as it resists moisture and scuffing.
How soon can I have barcode stickers for a stockist?
Production takes 10–12 working days after your proofs are signed off. Leave time to check every code, and scan a sample on arrival before labelling your stock.
