Cut vinyl decals

Custom Decal Stickers for clean lettering and logos

A decal gives you the look of paint or signwriting without the brush. Whether it is cut lettering on a van, a logo on a shop window or a design on a wall, decal stickers transfer just your graphic onto the surface, with no visible background around it.

  • Lettering and shapes with no background box
  • Applied with transfer tape for accurate placement
  • For vehicles, windows, walls and equipment

Decals versus stickers, and how to use them

The words decal and sticker are often used interchangeably, but a true cut decal behaves differently. Knowing the difference helps you choose the right product.

Why choose custom decal stickers?

A standard sticker is printed on a piece of material that stays visible around the design. A cut decal removes everything except the graphic itself, so lettering and logos look as if they were painted directly onto the surface.

That clean, professional finish is why decals are used for vehicle signwriting, shop windows and interior walls, where a visible sticker edge would look cheap.

Decals are also crisp at a distance. Solid cut letters read clearly from across a street in a way that a busy printed sticker often does not.

Popular uses for decal stickers

Decals are commonly used for:

  • Vehicle lettering – business names, phone numbers and websites.
  • Shop and office windows – opening hours, logos and services.
  • Interior walls – quotes, brand values and decorative designs.
  • Boats and trailers – names, registration details and graphics.
  • Equipment and machinery – identification and branding.

Materials, shapes and sizes

Decals are made from vinyl, which is durable, flexible and suitable for vehicles, windows and walls. Solid colours work particularly well for cut lettering, while printed decals combine full-colour artwork with a shaped outline.

Very small or thin lettering is difficult to cut and apply cleanly, so keep text reasonably bold. Measure the area carefully and allow space around the graphic for a balanced look.

For printed decals, colours are reproduced in full CMYK, while cut lettering uses solid coloured vinyl. If you need to match a specific brand colour closely, tell us the reference so we can discuss the nearest available option before you approve the proof.

How decals are applied

Cut decals are supplied with a layer of transfer tape over the top, which holds all the separate letters or pieces in position. You peel away the backing, place the decal, press it down and then remove the transfer tape, leaving only the graphic.

Clean the surface first and apply in mild, dry conditions. For large decals, marking the position with masking tape before you start helps keep everything straight.

On glass, decide whether the decal will go on the inside or outside, as inside decals read correctly only if prepared for that side.

How decals help your brand

Decals give a sign-written, professional appearance at a fraction of the cost of painted signage. On vehicles and shop fronts, that polished look reassures customers that they are dealing with an established business.

Because they are easy to apply and remove, decals also let you update branding, contact details or window offers without repainting.

Why customers choose AStickerPrinting for decals

FAQs

Decal Stickers questions, answered

What is the difference between a decal and a sticker?

A sticker keeps the material around its design visible. A cut decal removes everything except the graphic, so lettering and logos look painted onto the surface. The terms are often used loosely, so tell us the look you want.

How do I apply a vinyl decal?

Clean the surface, peel away the backing, position the decal with the transfer tape still attached, press it down firmly and then peel off the transfer tape slowly, leaving the graphic in place.

Can decals be removed?

Yes. Warm the vinyl gently with a hairdryer, peel it away slowly and clean any residue with a suitable adhesive remover.

How small can decal lettering be?

Very small or thin letters are hard to cut and apply cleanly. We check line weights on your proof and suggest adjustments if lettering is likely to cause problems.

Can decals go on the inside of a window?

Yes, but they must be prepared to read correctly through the glass. Tell us which side of the window you plan to use before we create your proof.

Are decals suitable for vehicles?

Yes. Vinyl decals are widely used for vehicle lettering and logos. Clean the panel thoroughly and avoid washing the vehicle for a day or two after application.

How long does it take to make decal stickers?

Decal orders typically take 10–12 working days after you approve the proof. Allow a little extra time if you are coordinating application with a vehicle or shop fit-out.
