Cut vinyl lettering

Letter Cut Stickers clean lettering with no background

Letter cut stickers are individual letters, numbers and shapes cut from vinyl, so only the lettering sits on the surface with no visible background. They give shop windows, vans, boats, doors and walls the crisp, painted-on look of signwriting. Choose your wording, font, size and colour, and tell us the surface so we can advise on material and application.

Choosing and applying letter cut stickers

Cut lettering behaves differently from a printed sticker. There is no background to hold the letters together, so font choice, size and application method all need thought.

Why choose letter cut stickers?

When a printed sticker sits on glass or a painted panel, its background edge is always visible. Letter cut stickers remove that edge completely, leaving only the characters, so the result looks integrated with the surface rather than stuck on.

That clean finish is why cut vinyl lettering is so often used as an alternative to hand signwriting on shopfronts, vehicles and boats. It gives a professional look without the time involved in painting each letter.

Cut lettering also suits minimalist interiors, where a single phrase on a wall or a room name on a door looks sharp and uncluttered.

Popular uses for letter cut stickers

Letter cut stickers are ordered for:

  • Shopfronts – business names, opening hours and phone numbers on glass.
  • Vans and trade vehicles – company names, services and contact details.
  • Boats – boat names and home ports on hulls and transoms.
  • Offices and doors – room names, house numbers and directional wording.
  • Interiors – quotes, family names and phrases on walls.
  • Events and displays – exhibition stand wording and temporary signage.

Fonts, sizes and colours

Because every letter is cut separately, very fine strokes, tiny serifs and delicate script joins can be fragile and fiddly to apply. Bold, clean fonts give the neatest result, especially at smaller sizes.

Size should match viewing distance. A phone number on a van is read from across a street, so it needs much taller lettering than a room name read from a metre away. Tell us where the lettering will be seen and we will help you pick a height.

Choose a colour that contrasts with the surface: white or gold on dark glass, black on light walls. Ask us about available vinyl colours for your job, as cut lettering is produced in solid colours rather than printed images.

Applying cut lettering neatly

Letter cut designs are usually applied using application tape, which holds the letters in position so the spacing stays exactly as designed. Mention in your quote request if you need them masked this way.

Clean the surface thoroughly, mark a straight guide line with low-tack masking tape, and apply from the centre outwards with a plastic squeegee or card. Peel the application tape back slowly at a sharp angle.

Freshly painted walls, textured masonry and heavily curved panels are difficult surfaces. We supply the lettering but do not offer an installation service, so large or complex vehicle and shopfront jobs may be best handled by a local signmaker.

How letter cut stickers help your business

Clear, well-spaced lettering on a van or shopfront tells passers-by who you are and how to reach you, often long after they have walked or driven past.

For windows, cut lettering keeps the glass mostly clear, so light still reaches the shop and customers can see your products while reading your name and hours.

Why customers choose AStickerPrinting for letter cut stickers

Cut lettering exposes weak artwork quickly. We look over your wording and font free of charge, point out strokes that may be too thin to cut cleanly, and send a proof showing the layout and dimensions. Production then takes 10–12 working days from your approval.

FAQs

Letter Cut Stickers questions, answered

What are letter cut stickers?

They are letters, numbers and simple shapes cut individually from vinyl, with no background. Once applied, only the lettering remains on the surface.

Which fonts work best for cut lettering?

Bold, clean fonts cut and apply most neatly. Very thin strokes, fine serifs and delicate scripts can tear or lift, especially at small sizes.

Can letter cut stickers be printed in full colour?

Cut lettering is produced in solid colours. If you need a photo, gradient or multi-colour logo, a printed and contour-cut sticker is a better option.

Can I put letter cut stickers on a boat?

Yes. Vinyl lettering is widely used for boat names. Tell us about the hull material and whether it sits above the waterline so we can advise.

Do you install letter cut vinyl?

No. We produce and deliver the lettering for you or your chosen fitter to apply. Straightforward jobs such as a door or window name are easy to do yourself with care.

How big should letters be on a van?

It depends on how far away people will read them. Contact details usually need to be noticeably larger than you expect. Tell us the panel and we will advise.

Can letter cut stickers be removed?

Vinyl lettering can usually be peeled off, sometimes with gentle heat. Some residue may need cleaning, and old or sun-exposed vinyl can be harder to remove.
