How to plan a custom sticker order

A little preparation before ordering saves messages back and forth, avoids under- or over-ordering and keeps your deadline safe.

Why plan your sticker order?

Most sticker problems are planning problems. Stickers that arrive after the event, run out halfway through a launch or turn out slightly too big for the lid usually come from a rushed brief rather than from printing.

Planning also helps you decide confidently. When you know the use, the conditions and the deadline, choosing material, size and quantity becomes straightforward instead of guesswork.

Finally, a complete request gets you an accurate quote faster. It means the figure you receive reflects the stickers you actually need.

Your order checklist

Before you request a quote, have these ready:

• Purpose and surface – what the sticker is for and what it will be stuck on.
• Size and shape – measured on the real item, plus any cut outline.
• Material and finish – or a description of conditions if you are unsure.
• Quantity per design – based on how many you expect to use.
• Deadline – the date the stickers must be in your hands.

Materials, shapes and sizes on the order

If you know the material you want, state it. If not, describe the conditions: indoors or outdoors, wet or dry, handled often or rarely. That is enough for us to suggest paper, vinyl, laminate or a speciality film.

Give sizes in millimetres and say whether they are the width, height or diameter. For shaped stickers, state the size of the longest side, and supply a cut line if you have one.

Mention the format as well. Sheets, individual singles and rolls suit different ways of applying stickers, and the choice affects how the order is produced.

Working back from your deadline

Start from the date you need the stickers and count backwards. Allow for delivery, then 10–12 working days of production, then time to review and approve your proof, and time to finalise artwork before that.

Remember that working days exclude weekends and bank holidays. An order planned over Easter or Christmas needs a little extra room.

Estimate quantities from real numbers: orders shipped per month, guests expected, products in a batch. Add a sensible margin for spoilage and extra uses, but avoid huge runs of designs that may change soon.
