Truck sticker buying guide

Specifying stickers for a truck fleet

A haulage vehicle is large, dirty and seen at speed, so truck stickers have to be bigger, bolder and tougher than most. Here is what to plan.

Why choose custom truck stickers?

A truck is a moving billboard on the busiest roads in the country. Clear cab graphics tell other drivers, customers and site staff who you are, and a well-presented fleet suggests a well-run operation.

Stickers are a practical alternative to a full wrap. They can be applied to a new vehicle on arrival, moved onto a replacement unit or updated when a phone number changes, without any repainting.

For operators running mixed vehicles, printed stickers also make it easy to keep a single identity across rigids, tractor units, tippers and support vans.

Popular uses for truck stickers

Fleet operators order truck stickers for:

  • Cab door branding – company name, logo and depot location.
  • Fleet and asset numbers – quick identification in yards and over the radio.
  • Rear door contact details – phone numbers and websites for following traffic.
  • Driver feedback stickers – a number to call about driving standards.
  • Cab interior notices – no-smoking signs, check reminders and driver information.

Materials, shapes and sizes

Outdoor vinyl is the starting point, and lamination is well worth considering on trucks, which face brush washes, road salt and traffic film remover far more often than a car. Heavy-duty constructions are available for the harshest applications.

Lettering needs to be large. A fleet number read from a yard office window, or a phone number read from a following car, needs characters far taller than a van sticker would use. Ask us to check legibility at your chosen size.

Consider the cut style too. Letter-cut operator names look painted on, while printed panels suit full-colour logos and photographs.

Placement on cabs and bodies

Keep stickers off lights, reflectors, mirrors and any glass the driver relies on, and clear of plates, markings or conspicuity tape the vehicle is required to display. The operator is responsible for making sure added graphics do not obscure any of these.

Ribbed or riveted body panels do not suit large stickers. Choose the smooth areas of the cab and doors, and allow for door handles, steps and grab rails.

Clean the surface with a degreaser, then isopropyl alcohol, and apply in dry weather above freezing. A vehicle straight out of a cold yard will need warming up first.

How truck stickers support your business

Consistent branding across the fleet builds recognition with customers and potential drivers alike. Recruitment is a real benefit, because many drivers first hear of an operator by following one of its lorries.

Clear numbering also saves time every day, from yard allocation to incident reporting.

FAQs

Custom Truck Stickers questions, answered

Can you print fleet numbers in sequence?

Yes. Give us the range of numbers you need and the size, and each sticker can carry its own number in a matching style. See our numbering stickers for more options.

Will truck stickers cope with commercial vehicle washes?

Laminated outdoor vinyl copes with regular washing much better than an unprotected print. Let the adhesive settle before the first wash, and keep pressure lances away from sticker edges.

How big should lettering be on a lorry?

It depends on the viewing distance, but truck lettering is usually much larger than people expect. Tell us where the text will be read from and we will comment on legibility when we review your file.

Can stickers go over ribbed or curtain-side panels?

Ribbed and riveted metal panels are unsuitable for adhesive stickers, and curtain sides flex constantly. Use smooth cab and door panels, or ask us about the specific surface.

Can you print driver behaviour stickers?

Yes. Rear-mounted stickers with a phone number or reference for reporting driving standards are a common fleet request. You supply the wording and contact details.

Can reflective stickers be added to the fleet?

Yes, reflective stickers help branding stand out at night. They supplement, and never replace, any conspicuity markings the vehicle is legally required to carry.

What lead time should a fleet operator plan for?

Plan for 10–12 working days from proof approval to the end of production, then delivery. When a new vehicle arrives on a known date, order in advance so it can go into service fully branded.
