Matte vinyl gives a painted look that suits most interiors. Metallic-effect vinyl adds gold, silver or copper tones for geometric lines and accents, catching light as you move around the room.

Patterns are usually supplied as many die-cut pieces, which gives you freedom to space them evenly or cluster them. Borders and lines come as long strips, split into manageable lengths.

Think about scale relative to the wall. Small shapes on a large wall can look busy, while fewer, larger motifs feel calmer and more deliberate.

Planning, surfaces and application

Sketch the wall with measurements and mark sockets, switches and furniture. For repeating patterns, a light pencil grid or a spirit level keeps spacing even as you work across the wall.

Check that your paint or wall finish is right for vinyl before ordering. Smooth, fully cured emulsion generally accepts stickers well; textured plaster, woodchip and chalky matt paints may not, and removing stickers later can leave marks or lift paint on some surfaces.

Apply at room temperature and smooth each piece from its centre outwards. For busy commercial walls, ask about a laminate on pieces within reach of chairs and bags.
