Character sticker guide

Turning illustrations into stickers

A character sticker has to keep the charm of the original drawing at a much smaller size. Line weight, outline shape and colour all need a little planning.

Why print character-style stickers?

Characters give stickers personality. People collect them, swap them and stick them on laptops and notebooks precisely because a character feels like it has a story, which a plain logo rarely does.

For illustrators, authors and small studios, stickers are one of the easiest pieces of merchandise to produce. They travel well in the post, sell at craft fairs and make perfect add-ons to book orders and prints.

Businesses use mascots in the same way. A friendly creature on a sticker makes a brand approachable for families and gives children something to ask for at the counter.

Popular uses for character stickers

Our customers print character designs for:

  • Illustrators and comic artists – merchandise for online shops and conventions.
  • Children’s authors – signing-day giveaways and book bundle extras.
  • Brand mascots – stickers for kids’ menus, reward charts and packaging.
  • Family projects – turning a child’s drawn creatures into real stickers.
  • Themed parties – fairy-tale and adventure designs for favours.
  • Schools and libraries – reading reward stickers with an original mascot.

Materials, shapes and sizes

Vinyl is the popular choice for merchandise because it survives laptops, bottles and phone cases. Paper suits reward charts and one-off party use, and holographic film makes limited-edition designs feel special.

A die cut following the character’s silhouette, with a thin white border, is the classic collectable look. Keep the border even so the cut stays clean around small details such as ears, tails and fingers.

Sizes from palm-sized singles to small characters on shared sheets are possible. Test how your character reads at the final size, since very fine hatching can blur when shrunk.

Preparing character artwork

Vector files keep outlines crisp at any size; if you work in raster, supply CMYK artwork at 300 DPI at or above the finished dimensions. Bright screen colours, especially neon greens and pinks, may look slightly different once converted to print.

Thicken very thin lines and simplify tiny background details that will disappear at sticker size. A bold outline around the whole character helps it stand out on busy surfaces.

If you are designing a set, keep the style, border width and colour palette consistent so the collection looks deliberate.

How character stickers grow an audience

Stickers travel. Every one placed on a laptop, water bottle or school bag shows your character to new people, which is why many artists include a free sticker with every order.

Limited runs, seasonal variants and holographic editions also give fans a reason to come back and complete the set.

FAQs

Disney Stickers questions, answered

Can you print Disney characters or logos?

Only if you own the rights or have permission from the rights holder – we cannot print protected characters or logos otherwise. Original characters and fairy-tale designs you have created yourself are always welcome.

What file format is best for character artwork?

Vector formats such as AI, EPS or PDF keep outlines sharp. High-resolution raster files work too if supplied in CMYK at 300 DPI at the final size.

Can you add a white border around my character?

Yes. A white border is the classic look for die-cut character stickers and gives a clean cut around fine details. We will show it on your proof.

Can I print a set of different characters?

Yes. Order several designs as singles or combine them on sticker sheets. Tell us the designs and quantities and we will quote them together.

Will colours look the same as on my screen?

Screens display colours that print cannot always match, especially vivid neons. Designing in CMYK helps, and our artwork review will flag colours likely to shift.

Are vinyl character stickers good for laptops and bottles?

Yes. Vinyl is flexible and handles handling and moisture well, which makes it a strong choice for stickers that will be used rather than kept on a sheet.

How long does it take to print character stickers?

Production is 10–12 working days after you approve the proof. If you are preparing for a convention or book launch, share the date so we can confirm timings.
