Print Stickers and avoid the most common artwork mistakes
When you want to print stickers, the file you send decides most of the result. Blurry photos, colours that look duller than on screen, text that fills in, white slivers at the edge and logos that break up when cut are all avoidable. This page walks through the most common sticker printing problems, why they happen and how to fix each one before printing.

Almost every disappointing sticker traces back to one of a handful of file issues. Fix them at the artwork stage and the print looks the way you intended.
Why artwork problems matter
A printer reproduces what is in the file. If an image is low resolution or a colour is set up for screens, the print will faithfully show those limitations, often more obviously than on a monitor.
Stickers magnify small issues because they are usually viewed close up. A slightly soft edge or cramped line of text that goes unnoticed on a poster stands out on a sticker held in the hand.
The good news is that these problems are predictable. Once you know what to check, preparing a clean file becomes routine.
The five most common sticker print problems
Watch out for these:
- Blurry or pixelated images – caused by low-resolution files enlarged beyond their size.
- Dull or shifted colours – RGB screen colours converted to CMYK inks.
- Unreadable text – type too small, thin or low in contrast.
- White slivers at the edge – no bleed on designs with colour to the edge.
- Broken shapes – fine points and gaps that tear during cutting.
Fixing resolution, colour and material issues
For sharp results, supply images at 300 DPI at the final printed size, or use vector artwork, which stays crisp at any size. Enlarging a small web image does not add detail; it only makes pixels bigger.
Bright screen colours such as neon greens and electric blues cannot always be matched with CMYK ink. Convert your file to CMYK before sending, so you see a more realistic version. If a colour is critical, tell us.
Material affects colour too. Designs look brightest on white vinyl or paper; on clear vinyl or metallic film, colours can appear different because of what sits behind the ink.
Fixing text, edges and cut lines
Choose bold, simple typefaces for small text and keep strong contrast with the background. Convert fonts to outlines or embed them so the lettering does not change when the file is opened elsewhere.
If colour runs to the edge, extend it a few millimetres beyond the cut line as bleed. Keep important text and logos inside a safe margin away from the edge.
For shaped stickers, simplify thin spikes and join small separate elements into one outline. A border around the artwork helps; see custom shape stickers for more on cut lines.
How a clean file protects your project
A properly prepared file means the stickers match the image in your head. That matters when they represent your brand, carry product information or are a gift you have planned carefully.
It also saves time. Files that need fewer changes move through proofing faster, bringing your order closer to production.

Print Stickers questions, answered
Why does my image look blurry when printed?
The file resolution is too low for the print size. Supply images at 300 DPI at the final size, or use vector artwork. Enlarging a small image does not add detail.
Why do printed colours look duller than on my screen?
Screens display RGB light, while printers use CMYK inks. Some bright screen colours cannot be matched exactly. Converting to CMYK before sending shows a more realistic result.
What is bleed?
Bleed is extra background extending a few millimetres beyond the cut line. It prevents thin white edges appearing if the cut shifts slightly.
How small can text be on a sticker?
It depends on the font and contrast. Bold, simple fonts remain readable at smaller sizes. We flag text that looks too small during the artwork review.
Why should I convert fonts to outlines?
It turns text into shapes, so the lettering looks the same on any computer even if the font is not installed.
Will you tell me if my file has problems?
Yes. Our free artwork review checks resolution, colour, text and cut lines, and we explain any changes before your proof.
How long does printing take once my file is ready?
Printing takes 10–12 working days after proof approval, plus delivery time.
